Tom Harwood is back to the MRO family again after a move half way around the world. He was one of the first presenters to present the new and innovative show where by the listener had direct access to the studio via social media sites.

After which his passion for house music protruded and pushed him to present a Saturday night show Mixed in Manchester, his show would showcase not only new up and coming DJ/producers but big established names in the industry too. Memorable shows had mixes from Chris Lake and promoters from Manchester critically acclaimed Warehouse Project. After meeting Tom the Warehouse Project scooped him up and had him playing on the same bill as Pete Tong, with three more invitations back to the club night.

Now every 1st & 3rd Saturday you can expect the same, with names getting involved from all over the world. If you love your house music then you will love this show. You can expect brand new tracks from guest DJ’s & Producers, plus a mix from them and a warm up mix from Tom and his new show resident DJ Tony Richards. 5-7PM UK & 8-10PM UAE

Contact Tom or listen to his mixes……..

STEPH JONES:

Steph is one-half of Steph and Coll (N.B not the Coll half). Steph is 7 foot 2 and is Scandinavian-Glaswegian of origin. Her skin is mostly blue. Steph enjoys twigs, stealing builder’s gloves off walls, finding single flip-flops (flip?), playing Frisbee and eating gregarious clouds. Steph graduated from nursery-school with a 1st in sandpit and mixing paints. Steph’s Mum is Betty Boothroyd and her Dad is Cliff Richard. This makes her part-tigress and mostly drunk. Steph has appalling taste in men, women and vegetables, and her diet consists mainly of meat. One day she hopes to be a famous loaf of bread kept on the highest shelf in the land, next to a dusty book and a signed photograph of Gary Lineker. Until then, you can find her in a bucket of jellied eels pretending to be Kurt Cobain whilst whistling avant-garde sea-shell boogie-woogy.

COLL BYRNE:

Collette is essentially a traditionalist in matters of female decorum. If you bung her a fiver she will teach you how to sit without your ankles showing (this is very important). She likes twigs, bees and tea. On any given Wednesday she can be found in one of the many parks in Manchester, sat on a bench drinking egg nog from a child’s sippy cup and screaming at YOU. Whilst sat on her bench she knits hats for pigeons. Collette is a Towering Inferno. She hopes one day to graduate to a Disco Inferno, then in true radio DJ style she can mix the two to become ’100 stories high’, a Towering Disco Inferno. Collette was not born but instead fashioned from clay and volcanic ash in the Maldives by Loki, the god of mischief. She was then auctioned off at Sotherby’s where she was bought by the Pope and installed in the Vatican. Steph bought her from John Paul II in 2009. They became enemies immediately. Word up, peace out, pants down. x

The Watershed Show is a weekly 2-hour forum, from 9pm until 11pm every Friday where studio guests and you the listening public get to discuss any hot topics from the news, or anything you see fit! One week we might be discussing the Iraq War, but if people call or email in about what’s going on in Corrie that week then so be it. So far we have discussed everything from Conspiracies, Time Travel, Spirituality, Football, the Paranormal, Rememberence day and all sorts in between.

If there are any subjects you would like us to discuss then follow TheWaterShed@MRO on Twitter and tweet us your suggestions. Regardless of the conversation, as this is Manchester Radio Online you are of course guaranteed some of the best music around as we will not only be playing music from the 60′s upto the present, we will also from time to time feature live performances from the studio. In a Nutshell, the Watershed Show is ‘After Dark’ meets ‘The Word’ minus Oliver Reed and Danni Behr!!!

The Power of the PlatformIn 2011 with the credit crunch and budgets squeezed its time for a fresh new and genuine look at advertising on the world’s biggest platform

What is Manchester Radio Online?

ManchesterRadioOnline.com is an alternative radio station to the ‘burger’ stations*, and has a mission to provide genuine entertainment, online. We have professional broadcasters, we’re professionally managed, and we’re quite partisan about the fact that we’re Manchester owned, Manchester based and Manchester focused.

Why is online better than FM/AM?
Being internet based means that our material can be more challenging, more original and more experimental.

Traditional stations have streaming, but this is only their ’same old’ FM or AM output – but streamed.

We recognize online listeners are not seeking the same experience and we deliver accordingly (background noise, we most certainly ain’t)

From February 2009 Manchester Radio Online become partners with Forever Manchester (and will become their media broadcast arm) Forever Manchester will be working in tandem with the major companies in Manchester such as Vimto, Harvey Nicholls, Duerrs Jam and many other Companies who will be supporting the local communities of Manchester

* Our presenters are a mix of talents ranging from broadcast legends such as James Stannage award-winning comedians to emerging talent from our local Universities

* Broadcasting via the Internet Manchester Radio Online is available anywhere there is an Internet connection, Wi-Fi connection or via Blackberry & Nokia cell phones.

* Unlike traditional FM radio this makes Manchester Radio Online accessible not only in the UK but the entire world.

Internet Radio advertising is just like terrestrial radio advertising -

but more powerful.

* More precise targeting opportunities.

* More actionable – listeners are one click away from your website.

* Audio is not background noise. Listeners at their computers pay attention.

* Internet Radio ads cost less than terrestrial (AM/FM) radio ads.

Internet Radio is growing rapidly, and is already a significant part of many companies”marketing campaigns.

A recent Arbitron report noted

* Over 50% of Internet users consume streaming media.

* The proportion of people worldwide who have listened to radio stations online has nearly quadrupled in three years.

* Streaming media attracts a highly compelling advertising target.

* People are spending less time with TV and print due to their time spent with the Internet.

* New and fresh.

Our Audience

Internet Radio naturally targets a favourable demographic

* Manchester Radio Online is the perfect station to advertise your business, website, event, organisation or music release. Your target audience is already listening!

* Large percentage in their 20′’s and 30′’s with disposable incomes and comfortable spending online.* Each listener launches an average of 30 streams per month.

* Approximately 9 hours of listening per user per month (this average includes those who only tune in once and surf away).

* Loyalty and frequency of use gives you the opportunity to make a significant and lasting impression on listeners.

The perfect channel to reach the at-work and at home audience

* Manchester Radio Online listenership can hit your target audience work hours, when terrestrial radio listening is reduced. Such as during Normal office hours

* Professionals can listen to Manchester Radio Online while working in their office

* Manchester Radio Online’s peak listening hours can hit your target audience at quiet and relaxing times while people are buying online or chatting to friends via social network sites (facebook, myspace, you-tube ect)

Little Red

International Sounds is a monthly installment of music hand picked by Reet(Little Red ) that flows through genre’s ,styles , cultures ,and continents .Since attending her first gig at 13yrs of age , Reet has actively been involved with musical movements and British sub cultures , through out the 80’s,90’s +00’s .As a result Reet’s ears have been open to many dj’s , bands ,and sound systems which have influenced her and in turn created a huge eclectic personal record collection .In 2007,dis-ilusioned with what going on in Manchester, Reet launched her own live music club night which was a massive success with underground music lovers of all ages and backgrounds. The events tag line was “…Playing anything that’s a tune!” and with that ethos in mind International Sounds continues in the same tradition. Atypical playlist would include northern soul ,ska ,punk ,indie ,blues and reggae to name but a few. With no two play lists ever the same Reet stamps her personality on this time slot and openly invites interaction with listeners , swapping musical knowledge ,rare gems and stories of past gigs via email.Every month listeners can expect to hear her monthly chat and playlists delivered with humour in her typically north mancunian accent .

Manchester Radio Online

ManchesterRadioOnline.Com

ManchesterRadioOnline.com is an alternative radio station to the ‘burger’ stations*, and has a mission to provide genuine entertainment, online. We have professional broadcasters, we’re professionally managed, and we’re quite partisan about the fact that we’re Manchester owned, Manchester based and Manchester focused.

Why is online better than FM/AM?

Being internet based means that our material can be more challenging, more original and more experimental. Traditional stations have streaming, but this is only their ’same old’ FM or AM output – but streamed. We recognise online listeners are not seeking the same experience and we deliver accordingly (background noise, we most certainly ain’t)

What about advertising?

ManchesterRadioOnline.com is about authenticity, quality, integrity, excitement, originality and the grass roots of Manchester. If you have a product or service that you want associated with these qualities, contact us. (We can also help you with promotional and related administrative work).

More details:

The Internet is the world’s fastest growing marketplace, where an estimated 1 billion online users can be reached in a millisecond. At home, internet surfers spend an average of three hours online each evening/night, and many like to listen to music or talk whilst surfing, hence the popularity of Online Digital Radio. The Daily Mail recently reported that the Internet has now overtaken television for the first time ever as the UK’s favourite pastime and advertisers are leaving TV and FM radio in their droves to tap into this red-hot interactive marketplace.

Internet audiences are far easier to monitor than radio listeners and therefore the demographic can be exactly matched to potential sponsors and advertisers. Online radio is also far more interactive – listeners can immediately visit the advertiser’s website with credit card at the ready, something that old-style radio cannot compete with.

With presenters such as the controversial James Stannage & Many More.

Manchester Radio Online is set to become the number one online station in the North West of England. James’ listening figures during his time at Key 103 were huge and his popularity has never waned (we have been inundated with emails since the news that James is back leaked out).

Burger Station: The opposite of ManchesterRadioOnline.com – burger stations are superficially ‘local’ but are owned by national or international corporations. They do for radio what the burger chains do for high streets, i.e. create a national ‘averageness’ void of local character. Whichever city you’re in, the burger stations have the same playlists, the same logo, same style websites, even the same content

James Stannage, born 22 February 1950, is a British late night talk show radio host. He is best known for presenting The Late Night James Stannage Talk Show on Manchester’s Key 103. He was dismissed from Key 103 in June 2005 after numerous warnings and a history of run-ins with regulator OFCOM.[1]

He first worked for Piccadilly Radio in the mid-seventies, presenting his own late-night phone-in show. Occasional guests on the show wereMike Harding and Jasper Carrott. He was renowned for his abrasive and aggressive style even then, so much so that the Bishop of Salford publicly condemned him as a bad influence.

After leaving Piccadilly Radio, he went on to work for other local radio stations such as TFM Radio during the eighties before returning to Piccadilly 1152 in 1989. In the early days of his second stint at Piccadilly, his style was mellower than it had been before, but as time wore on became increasingly aggressive again and insulting comments to callers were stoked up as well.

Terry Day (Snowden) has been around the world of radio, music and general entertainment for Yonks!
In the 80’s he produced and presented a regular showcase from the BBC in Manchester for the UK’s unsigned music scene, this was back in the days when unsigned acts rarely got radio play opportunities!

He also launched what is believed to be the BBC’s, (and possibly the UK’s) first competitive ‘Demo Chart’, providing the general public with the opportunity to decide the chart positions of the featured bands and artists each week, generating literally thousands of weekly phone votes and generating a lot of interest in the unsigned music scene.

Terry then formed The Heroes – the world’s first pop group featuring people with learning disabilities and their friends – The Heroes released 4 albums over a decade and undertook performances at events attracting more than a million people. The group’s first public performance was at the M.E.N Arena and their last high profile gig was in Trafalgar Square in 2008.

Much of Terry’s work these days is geared towards supporting the Learning Disabled community through club night and performing arts based initiatives for which he was awarded an MBE by the queen in 2004. However, he still likes to jump onto the decks at MRO for his regular slot of fun and quirky banter with his partner in crime ‘Our Greg’ who has also shared in many of Terry’s adventures.

Born in Manchester, Tony Michaelides never had a proper job in his life. After working with too many people you might have heard of for too long he moved to the Gulf Coast of Florida to work with people he’d never heard of. Seduced back to radio after a hiatus (long timeaway, stupid) of almost fifteen years he now enjoys a Ronaldo like lifestyle without the money or the girls. Beautiful weather though. Having embraced the inner sanctum of the music industry Tony now devotes his ‘time’ to writing and talking about what he did. He didn’t kill the music industry but he knows where the bodies are buried. He wrote a book, ‘Insights from the Engine Room, Lessons learned from Rock n Roll to remind him that he never kept a diary.

Although shy and retiring he is now a public speaker, mentor, blogger, radio presenter and TV show host. Currently writing more books and preparing a killer presentation in between searching for an allotment with an abundant array of palm trees he is now Chief Evangellist for . Magic Leap and exciting new project with a company delivering cool social cinematic experiences to millions of people worldwide. As with life his radio show flys by the skin of his teeth…Tuesday at eleven pm (UK) 6pm EST 9pm PCT in the US and repeated the following Monday. What music? just great tunes from here, there, then and now.

The Ripman Show

Paul Ripley has always had one great passion, rock and roll and it’s that same passion that drove him to do everything else he tried his hand at with the same unrelenting determination.Born in Manchester he spent the first 10 years of his life in three separate continents. That was an educational and cultural experience before most of us were out of short pants! By the time he was 18 he was working in a guitar store tuning up guitars for Sting and Patti Smith before moving to rehearsal rooms and doing live sound for bands such as Manc Punks Slaughter and the Dogs to rock legends Thin Lizzy. At 20 and on the verge of signing to an American Record label he turned up at their offices to find they’d disappeared! By 21 he’d seen a little more of the music industry than originally planned. His show Is an eclectic mixture of music and chat and supporting new and emerging talent, without forgetting the past musical greats! Live sessions and thought provoking interviews, a must not miss show for melodiously inclined.

As a guy who writes twenty features a week for my shows (‘The Week In Chat’ – 9pm Tuesdays and ‘Let Loose’ – 9pm Saturdays) I was stumped when I was asked to write something about MYSELF!

Then Matty Shaw suggested I relate how I became involved with ManchesterRadioOnline. So here goes:

Rewind a few years to when I was a budding thirteen year old aspiring astrologer. Having sent a reading to my hero, James Stannage, he passed my details onto the producer of a kids show on (now defunct) Piccadilly Radio in Manchester. This led to my being invited to co-present the magazine programme made BY kids, FOR kids.

Thirty-three years later, when I had grown up (just a little), I bumped into James again, in a pub run by entrepreneur, David Foran. Ironically, both were to be involved in a new venture – Manchester Radio Online – and invited me to join in as producer on James’s new show.

Were they KIDDING? Work with the nations original and best shock-jock? I jumped at the chance.

Nearly four years later I STILL love the camaraderie at MRO – and it’s great to be old enough to have James as a drinking buddy and best mate.

Join me every Tuesday and Saturday from 9pm, for the interactive current affairs show with features and great music thrown in.

Have YOUR say … ‘cos I’ll definitely be having MINE!

Join Daniel Zlupko every Monday night between 9pm and 11pm for the best in new alternative releases, new bands, guests and the odd gem from a varitey of genres. The focus of the show is new music with the majority of tracks played either coming out or just released. If you’re in a band feel free to get in touch via the contact form below.

I started broadcasting on community radio a few years back after being an avid fan of the wireless and music since youth. I then joined Manchester Radio Online in April 2011 and it’s been honour so far to be part of such a great radio station. I keep up to date with all the new releases and try to avoid the mainstream to provide great new music, that can get overlooked, with a platform to be heard. Along with the new stuff, expect to hear classics from all sorts of genres including Northern Soul, Motown and some alternative gems from across the decades.

Since I’ve been on air I’ve interviewed the likes of Peter Hook, Yeasayer, The Young Knives, Cherry Ghost, The Sunshine Underground, The Big Pink, Frightened Rabbit, Pete and the Pirates, The Phantom Band, Clint Boon, The Airborne Toxic Event, White Rabbits, Crystal Fighters, The Chapman Family, Eagles of Death Metal, Lowline, The Longcut, Glass, Beat the Radar… I’ve also DJ’d in clubs, bars and club nights around Manchester.

Hello all my fellow Mancs! I’m Sophie, the one who brings the sparkle to the station!

I’ve been part of the amazing MRO family since August 2010, when I stumbled across a lovely bloke who goes by the name of Sam Jones! He just happened to be looking for a slightly mental chatterbox of a co-presenter with an obsession for shoes, Starbucks and
sushi!

Although I’m an R&B girl at heart, I am gradually being educated on the indie scene thanks some of the amazing undiscovered/unsigned talent we regularly have on the show. I have an absolute ball presenting on the station, it’s a real privilege and the ideal job for someone who could happily sit in a room with a rock and have a conversation with it.

When I’m not doing the show I can been found driving through Manchester blasting out hip/hop and rapping along badly, in the corner of a Starbucks or whizzing around an ice rink like the old days (but lets not talk about my ice dancing past, it’s a secret!)

So join us every Saturday live 5-7 where anything could happen! It’s music to your little Mancunian ears!

Get involved; follow me on twitter @sophiewrightxx or facebook search Sophie Wright.

The HEROES were the world’s first, and UK’s most successful, ‘inclusive’ popular music group!
Recognised both nationally and internationally for their pioneering approach, this multi-award winning group specialised in big production concerts featuring no nonsense music to generate situations that were as motivating and life forming as they were entertaining!

Between 1998 and 2008, The HEROES undertook performances at events attracting more than 1million people to Arenas, Stadiums, Theatres, Parks and International Festivals. Alongside building an enviable music portfolio including four successful albums, they were also widely regarded as early pioneers of inclusive theatre, producing stage shows specifically catering for, and attracting people with a wide range of differing abilities and combined needs.

From Manchester’s M.E.N Arena to London’s Trafalgar Square, The HEROES remain the inspiration behind The Heroes Project’s development and ongoing delivery of a range of popular initiatives that attract growing numbers of people.

In 2008 after 10 totally successful years The Heroes pop group decided to finish on a high, and so we got invited to Manchester Radio Online as guests on The Phil Wood Show, and so the The Heroes Online Radio Show was born and we were back on the radio.

The UK’s first truly ‘inclusive’ online radio programme provides the perfect opportunity for you to get involved in live radio broadcasting as a guest co-presenter. The Heroes Online Radio Show is especially for those wanting to take a first step into the wonderful world of radio broadcasting.

The show always tries to have fresh music of today and the classic hits of yesterday.

Thanks for reading The heroes Blog hope you find it interesting, and see you every Saturday from 10am sharp live only on Manchester Radio Online for The Heroes Online Radio Show.

The Radio Shed, born in the depths of Brian’s Gran’s back yard on a cold miserable August night in the rain clouted fields of Hyde, or was it France? Brian Mitchell cried the day Rae Leeson turned up and ate his last rolo, But Gran saw there was more to this than met her good eye and made them play nicely with each other until tea time… the rest is his story erm, History! Many have tried to stop them but they still turn up every Saturday 12 – 2pm to plague the interweb with this Shed of wonder and we all wonder why they bother! Even their listener seems to want more Radio Shed, we hear him shouting from the roof top of the Urbis when will it stop!!!Brian Mitchell a DJ from the depths of despondency “rocking a fat one” during Saturday lunchtime as we believe no one listens at this time. Held up – all be it with the aid of a large car jack – by the one and only “thankfully” Rae Leeson, who learnt his DJ skills from Brian’s Gran and some Kid they found with a new fancy iphone. Yes, it’s a mess, we hear you cry, but at least you don’t have to listen! They make us listen, even if we have a doctor’s note…
